After being totally consumed by moving for three consecutive weeks, last week some bad news came to me. My godmother Martina died. I knew she was ill - I just didn’t expect her to die. Didn’t allow that thought to even enter my mind. The burial is on Monday.
She leaves her husband and her two kids, and countless people who knew and loved her behind speechless - me and my family included.
Here’s to you, Martina - the best always go too soon.

Hey folks,
I am still alive - although some of you might question this, as I have not shown up on Skype lately
- it is just the whole moving thing that makes internet access a bit difficult, especially as our new apartment has no internet line yet. Working on this, but it might take a bit. The new phone line was set up today, note the new number: +49 (0)40 - 25 30 69 30.
Two weeks ago we moved Christine’s stuff… “only” moving inside the city makes it easier, because you can just do some more rounds with the truck if there is more stuff than anticipated (which there was. Plenty. Unbelievable how much stuff fit into her little apartment!).
Getting all the stuff up the four flights of stairs… is another thing altogether. Without the help of a whole bunch of her friends, we would have died right there and then.

Last weekend was my turn. After spending a week in my apartment, getting it all boxed up, I loaded up a big truck to the brim with the help of Tine’s mum, Felix and Sabine (after her brunch ;->). With a nightover stop in Münster, we made it up to Hamburg, and fortunately did again enjoy the help of some friends who gave their Sunday away for us.
The beginning of this week was spent with Tine’s parents, who helped a great deal getting things set up and going - water connections, new pipes in the kitchen and the bathroom, switches… all those things that need to be done. Now we are busy unpacking boxes, finding a place for everything and getting used to the new place.
BTW, let me tell you - our new apartment is SO DARN GREAT! We just enjoyed one great sunset after the other - we literally have a 180° view from our balcony. And I am still not used to the idea that our bedroom has 2/3 the size of my first apartment.
I did it!
Yesterday my colleague Julia and me handed in our thesis, titled
“Führungsprozesse in verteilten Teams - Eine qualitative Analyse deutsch-chinesischer Zusammenarbeit” (Leadership processes in dispersed teams - a qualitative analysis of german-chinese collaboration)
Here you can see me, giving a copy of the thesis the official stamp of our university
After a great BBQ party yesterday, now my days studying at WHU are really coming to an end - though the official end will be the graduation ceremony on September 15th. Today I am driving up to Hamburg, where Tine and me will take over our new apartment! We will move in her stuff this weekend, and my stuff the weekend afterwards.
Memorize our new address:
Christine Preuß &
Florian Hollender
Lübecker Str. 82
22087 Hamburg
There is a big housewarming party on September 1st - if you want to come (given that we know each other or you think we should get to know each other), send me a short E-Mail (florian [at] floho.com) and I’ll get you on the guest list.
